Carat Weight

A C carat is called the measure of diamond’s weight, it consists

of 100 points. One carat is 0.2 grams. Small diamonds are measured in

points. The diamond’s price is not wholly determined by the carat weight

though. This means that two diamonds of equal carat weight may cost not

the same price, the value is also dependant on their color, cut and clarity.

In general the carat weight influences the price, and usually diamonds

larger sized diamonds have a better cut. But it’s hard to predict the

interdependence between a diamond’s weight and size. Diamonds of a shallow

cut may have a greater diameter than diamonds of a deep cut but the weight

is the same. Diamonds that look too big for their carat weight are very

likely to have a reduced brilliance. You’d better pay more attention to

the diamond measurements than the carat weight. The ideal cut of a one

carat round diamond is approximately 6.4 mm in diameter.
