Diamond mining and conflict diamonds

The complex volcanic magmas or streams called kimberlitic serve as elevators that bring diamonds as well as mantle rocks and many other minerals to the Earth's surface. Man obtains these diamonds by mining or digging pits in the ground.

Unfortunately not all of the mined diamonds bring beauty to people. There are conflict diamonds that are illegally traded to fund war conflicts, especially in central and western Africa. These diamonds are also known as "blood diamonds."
The global diamond industry makes everything possible to avoid promoting these conflict diamonds, and nowadays more than 99% of diamonds come from conflict free sources.
