Synthetic Diamonds and Simulants

There are two types of diamond, naturally mined diamonds and synthetic

diamondsgrown in laboratories.

Created or man-made diamonds have the same characteristics and qualities

a natural diamonds, they are also eco-friendly. Natural diamonds and synthetic

diamonds simply have a different origin. Fancy color lab grown diamonds

are more affordable than natural mined and it’s price can be up-to 5 times

less depends on color. For each diamond of these types you can receive

an independent gemological certificate from GIA, IGI or EGL. Currently

there are just few laboratories where lab grown diamonds are created,

these are Gemesis, New Age Diamonds, Apollo. The technology behind it

is HPHT (High Pressure High Temperature) and CVD (Chemical Vapor Deposition).

There also so called diamond simulants like cubic zirconia (CZ), moissanite,

Russian Brilliant and etc, these usually have a much lower price. The

simulants can’t be graded by gemolical laboratories and it will never

be confirmed as real diamond. There is also a great variety of sizes and

shapes, e.g. popular round and square sizes, hearts, marquises, star shapes

and many others.
